Inventory by Country – The Straw Sandals Project

The collection has now been completely re-photographed on black felt and we are working on updating the descriptions of the sandals.

My plan is to maintain here an up-to-date image inventory of the straw sandals collection. Even though the collection now contains shoes and boots in addition to sandals and might more appropriately be named footwear, I have retained the name straw sandals collection since it started with a search for hand-crafted vegetable fiber sandals. Also, the term has a long history of use in many languages to describe the footwear of the common people. I like this. Both ancient and contemporary footwear are included in the inventory and even some unusual and interesting items that are not woven. Contemporary footwear typically includes vegetable fiber woven material as a component of their construction. Even so, the inspiration for the collection was and will always be the straw sandal.
